New Delhi: Summer is already here and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released its seasonal weather prediction for this hot season starting from March to May 2024. It is predicted that this time the temperature will be above the normal maximum temperatures for most parts of India. In such weather conditions, we need to be extra careful about our health and well-being, especially in children.

As the days grow longer and the sun shines brighter, maintaining children’s safety under the summer heat becomes more and more essential. Dr Urvi Ashani – R&D Head BabyOrgano told News9, “Their delicate skin requires additional care during the scorching temperatures as they engage more in outdoor activities. Effective sun protection measures are essential to shield the young ones from harmful UV radiation, preventing sunburns, and long-term skin damage. This guide offers practical tips to help families to enjoy the summer months while prioritising sun safety for their little ones.”

Natural ways to protect children from the heat

Highlighting the importance of using natural ingredients for sun protection by stating Dr Ashani explained, “Many natural ingredients possess properties that offer protection from the sun. Sandalwood is one of them and is renowned for its natural SPF properties. Additionally, ingredients like sesame seed oil, sunflower oil, coconut oil, saffron, jojoba oil, shea butter, and vitamin E oil provide effective sun protection. Additionally, Parents should opt for products containing these natural ingredients, as they offer a safer alternative to synthetic sunscreens.

These ingredients not only protect against harmful UV rays but also nourish and moisturise the skin, keeping it healthy and supple. Incorporating these natural ingredients into sun protection routines can significantly enhance their efficacy.”

She further added that mixing a few drops of sesame seed oil or coconut oil with aloe vera gel can create a homemade sunscreen with added moisturising benefits. Similarly, shea butter combined with vitamin E oil forms a protective barrier against the sun while keeping the skin hydrated. By embracing the power of natural ingredients, parents can enhance the effectiveness of their sun protection efforts while ensuring the well-being of their children’s delicate skin.”
