Why is Mango Sticky Rice considered healthy?
Mango sticky rice, a traditional Thai dessert, is not only delicious but also offers several health benefits when consumed in moderation. This dessert combines glutinous rice, fresh mangoes, and coconut milk, each contributing unique nutritional value. Firstly, mangoes are a rich source of vitamins, particularly vitamin C and vitamin A, which are essential for boosting the immune system, improving skin health, and maintaining good vision. They also provide dietary fibre, which aids in digestion and helps maintain a healthy gut.
The glutinous rice used in mango sticky rice is a good source of carbohydrates, providing the energy necessary for daily activities. While it is considered a refined carbohydrate, it still retains some nutrients, including essential minerals like manganese, which is important for bone health and metabolic functions.
Coconut milk, another key ingredient, contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs), a type of fat that is more easily metabolised by the body compared to other fats. MCTs can provide a quick source of energy and may aid in weight management. Additionally, coconut milk is a good source of lauric acid, which has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Overall, while mango sticky rice should be enjoyed in moderation due to its sugar content, it provides a mix of essential nutrients that can support overall health.
